Helpful Tip~Mixing colors

I'm going to attempt to answer one of my most asked questions for you.  I receive a lot of inquiries about my choice of paint colors. Many times I've explained that I buy the "oops" paint at the Lowes.  More often than not, it has no paint color name on it.
But I would like to help those out there searching for their perfect paint color.  Many times I have had to mix several paint colors together to get the exact color I want.  It's hard to find the right color swatch, so I create my own concoction.  Here's some tips for you all who want to do the same.
First, I gather some old containers, old butter tubs, plastic cups, what have you.  Some plastic spoons, and my paints.  Then I start dropping in the main color I want, in this case it was a pale green.  I wanted to lighten it up some, so I added some white.  *Keep note of how much of each paint color you use*.  It wasn't quite gray enough for me so I mixed in several spoonfuls of a pale gray I had until I achieved the look I wanted.
I mixed enough together to paint these side tables
So there you have it, I hope this helps those of you want to start painting your own furniture.  Good luck and be creative!  If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

  1. I mix paint all the time, due to finding so many 'ooops' paints too. That pale green is amazingly beautiful!

I've been enjoying your blog...just stumbled upon you a few days ago. :)

  2. That's such a good idea to mix paint. Do you ever mix different brands, or do you stick with the same brand when mixing?

  3. Jena~ I mix different brands all the time. But try to stay with the same finish.
