B&A Friday

This week during my perusing of Pinterest, I came across this amazing roadside rescue.  This dresser was refinished by Karin over at Art is Beauty.  She found this piece on the side of the road and decided it was perfect for an auction, at a Nature Center, in Michigan.  By the way, she gave me permission to feature it :)

I really love featuring unique before and afters to share with you.  If you have a before/after to share that is unique and beautiful, please send it along and I will consider sharing it here on B&A Friday.

On with the show~

Here is the dresser before

Here's a little peek on how she did it

Have a great weekend!  We will be celebrating two birthdays and Labor Day.

Another Lamp

If there's one thing I love, it's a thrift store lamp make over.  I swear, I think there should be s new show where you have to find something at a thrift store and compete to see who can give it the best make over.  I think a lot of us would be very good on that show.

I did a few other lamp face lifts  here and here, but I think this one is my favorite.  It was pretty easy, just spray painted the base a glossy black and replaced the shade with one from Target.

Just a sweet little ol' lampy waiting for some love.  If this were lamp high school, I have a feeling she would be sitting alone at lunch.

 Shazam!  She exudes confidence now.

Now she must patiently wait until I can get my act together and finish this library.

Round Table and Chairs

I have found three of these round tables in the past few months.  But this one had chairs with it, albeit with a  red seat, but hey matching chairs!  Everyone loves a matching chair set with their round table right?  The top was also painted red.  I think someone was trying to be creative.

I decided to do the same thing I did with this table, which is odd to me because I never like to do the same thing twice.  But it seemed so many people enjoyed it and were interested in buying it.

I used Annie Sloan Provence on the base and the chairs.  The top is refinished with a dark walnut stain.

I hope you all have a great week, any plans for the Labor Day weekend?

Sweet Desk

I got this desk among several other pieces at an estate sale.  Ever been to one where the people were hoarders?  Those are THE BEST, so much to look at and usually hidden treasures around every corner.
As long as you don't mind rummaging through other people's filth, they rule!

Also, they price everything very reasonable because they just want to get rid of it quickly.

During the painting of this desk I misplaced one of my many official paint can openers and had to resort to using a screwdriver.  And it seems like every time I try this I fail and end up slicing through my finger.  This time was no different.  I cut through the webbing of my thumb and pointer finger, ouch!

Maybe I need to start carrying that paint opener on a string around my neck.  Start a new fashion.
 Feel free to Pin It!
I was kind of joking when I said that, but after I put this on and took a picture, I think maybe it would be a good idea.

Or maybe I need a tool belt.  Hey, yeah!  A tool belt should do the trick.

Any thoughts?

This colorful little re-do was sent to me from Donna who blogs over at Small House Under a Big Sky

I love this little stool, the fabric is a nice touch and goes nicely with the colors she chose.
Great project Donna, thanks for sharing!

Taco Quesadilla

I'd like to believe that I just made this up, but in reality I'm sure there is a recipe out there for this.

And frankly I can't even really give you an exact recipe for this.  All it consists of are my favorite taco ingredients.  Taco meat, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole.

Folded over and grilled in a frying pan on both sides until cheese melts and tortilla browns a little.
Yum, Yum!

Stuff

This morning as we were waking up and starting breakfast with our girls, I kept tripping over things.  Specifically this garbage bag full of clothes going to Goodwill.  I have moved it from the top of the stairs, to the front door, to the dining room and now, it has finally made it's way to the back door, where it ought to be.

My man saw me bump into this thing few times, and after I let out a sigh of frustration, he said what we both knew to be true.  "There's stuff everywhere!"  He was absolutely right.  Where does all this stuff come from?  Why do we think we need all this?

I don't know if I can answer that question, but I do know it's time for a yard sale.

I think it has to do a lot with my re-decorating.  It's becoming a problem.  Right now I'm working on the "library".  It's the room where we decided to put all the books and therefor should be named accordingly.

It's in a state of disarray, since I'm waiting to buy new chairs, and I finally finished painting it.
By the way  and I have a little teaser for you.

This is more or less the color scheme I'm shooting for

 Working the book shelves

On a another note, it was about 66 degrees during the night and we slept with the attic fan on and the windows open.  Those of you who have one of these can share in my excitement.   When the cooler weather starts to come, this is one of the main things I look forward to doing.

Although I know it's just a southern tease, I'm still grateful for the cold front that's sweeping through.

B&A Friday-Buffet/Island

Today I'm sharing one of my own pieces, because I just happened to finish it yesterday.
Also, if you would like to be featured here at B&A Friday, send me your photos at betweenblueandyellow@yahoo.com.
I'm not picky, any project that you have a before and after shot of will work just fine.

I nabbed this little buffet/ island a few weeks ago, I really wanted to go bold with it. With its dainty dimensions it could fit perfectly on a small wall in the dining room or the kitchen.

Or one might choose to use it smack dab in the middle of the kitchen as an island.

 Here is the before

The back

The color is the perfect combination of orange and red.
Luckily I found this paint in the "oops" section at Lowes, and sadly it did not have a name on it.

I hope you all have a nice weekend,
I get to spend a little time with my very best girl friend in the whole world.

Penne Tuscana

I've been super busy with projects around the house, hence my lack of posts.  But, not too busy to plan and prepare delicious meals for my family, most of the time.

I can't remember exactly where this recipe came from but it is a easy weeknight pasta dish.  And minus the 3 tbsp of butter, a healthy meal.  But we all need butter to live, right?  I think so.

 Penne Tuscana

    Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 2 teaspoons crushed rosemary
  • 8 ounces shitake mushrooms, sliced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 ounces penne pasta, cooked al dente and drained
  • 3 ounces baby spinach, heavy stems removed, (1/2 of 6 oz. bag)
  • 1 small red onion, peeled and wedged
  • 2 tablespoons chopped Italian flat leaf parsley
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons pine nuts, toasted
  • 1/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled

PREPARATION DIRECTIONS:

  1. Heat olive oil, garlic cloves and rosemary in large deep skillet, stirring occasionally, over medium heat, until garlic is golden brown on all sides. Remove pan from heat. Discard garlic.

  2. Cook and stir mushrooms in olive oil until tender. Season with salt and pepper. Add pasta and red onion to skillet. Cook and stir 3 to 4 minutes. Add spinach and parsley. Cook and stir until spinach is wilted. Remove from heat. Add butter, pine nuts and cheese. Toss gently to combine. Tranfer to serving platter and serve immediately.

Many projects soon to come, I just started too many at once and can't seem to finish one at the moment.
That ever happen to you?

Beach Cottage Dresser

To me this dresser looks like it belongs in a shabby beach/lake cottage.  I love the shape and the curvy lines across the front.

If only I had a beach cottage to furnish, I'm pretty sure I would be keeping this one.

 Tea anyone?
