Have you ever heard of such a thing?! Well, neither had I until a reader commented on
this post about painting the sub-floors in my kitchen. I started doing a little research and came across several folks who have tried this interesting endeavor.
hmmm.. not quite sure about it, what do you think?
It's most certainly different. I can imagine how much work it would be to complete a floor with this. I would be afraid that after all the hardwork that over time it would start to 'let up'. It's interesting and a cool concept, that's for sure. Is it for me? Probly not. I'm a hardwood floor/Bamboo Floor kinda girl lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's different for sure! I like the texture it give the floor but I'm not sure if it would be something I would do in my own home.
ReplyDeleteI used this technique on the walls once and as soon as the whole thing was done, we said, "hate it" and painted right over it. Interesting concept, difficult to make it look like it's not amateur sponge painting from the early 90s :) I'm sure you will do something fabulous with your floor!
ReplyDeleteLove the look and I bet if you didn't know it was paper bags, you wouldn't be able to guess. But, yeah, it seems like a ton of work.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! Reminds me of a hair salon I used to go to, where they'd covered the floor with fashion magazine pages (showing hairstyles) and shellacked them. Amazingly, it kept looking good for the 6-8 years I went to that salon! (It's probably still there!)
ReplyDeleteI JUST did this in one of our bathrooms. I was originally going to do it on our "hillbilly hardwood" aka sub-floor in the kitchen. I still might. It's just that for the floor it takes a LOT of drying time b4 you can walk on it or put appliances back. But as for the walls?...I love the contrast between the walls and the white trim. I used a big roll of craft paper and a bit of brown bag packing paper that came in some boxes we recieved. School glue and water 3:1. Worked beautifully except where the freezing draft came in on the exterior wall. I have yet to fix that. LOVE it. I'll post some pics one of these days on my blog. MAybe I'll even get brave and do the kitchen floor!
ReplyDeletei think it looks great, but wonder how well it wears... interesting though for sure.
ReplyDeleteI think if you had bad floors, and had nothing to lose, it's a great alternative!! It looks really good.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'd do it though unless I really had nothing to lose...it would scare me. LOL
I thought about it and tried it on a table and couldn't get the paper to stay flat. Maybe my paper was too thick. I'm just going to try painting the subflooring. Happy pregnancy! Enjoy the rest you need right now. The works quickly catches up! :) I just found you and am following now.
