I got several questions about this piece and painting laminate furniture. So I figured I'd let you in on the secret. **All you need is the right primer**. But first clean your laminate well. I sanded this piece first, because it had some stickiness on it and other flaws.
But if you have a piece with no flaws, just wipe clean and your ready for your primer.
I used an oil based primer that is designed to adhere to glossy surfaces. So you don't have to sand! By the way you will have to clean your brushes with mineral spirits if you use oil based products. So it may be easier to buy a cheap little brush and roller and toss afterward.
This stuff is awesome!
Zinsser Cover Stain.
If your not sure, just read the back label and it will say which surfaces to put it on.
After you've applied your primer, wait for it to fully dry before you put your first coat of paint on. This is very important, it doesn't take long to dry. You may also want to sand it lightly after the primer is applied to get rid of drip or brush strokes. When all is said and dry, you can do a second coat of primer, but I didn't for this piece.
So go ahead with your first coat of paint allow to dry and do second coat if needed.
And hopefully it will turn out something like this
If you have any other questions, feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you.
SOLD!
Today my first sold piece will be picked up by it's new owner. I had not even had a chance to post about it so here goes. I got this desk at a yard sale a little while ago, and it was yelling at me to paint it red. With all the white re-dos I see all over blog land I figured I'd try my hand at something different. The desk was nice to begin with, no major flaws.
Here is the before-
After
I think it looks a little like an old barn door. I hope she's happy in her new home...
What do you think, do you like the bold red?

Updated dresser
My sister brought me an old dresser from who knows where. Let's just say it had seen better days. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do anything with it, since it had a laminate top. And several dings and scratches in it. But I worked my magic and it turned out better than I imagined.

While we were in Tybee, we were fortunate enough to stay in one of the cutest rental homes ever! Me and my husband along with some of my oldest and dearest friends spent 3 wonderful days sharing this darling cottage.
Love the blue front door and yellow paint.
The house was full of antique knick knacks and shabby chic decor. Great paint colors and lots of love went into this home.
There was a unique painting on the back of the house.
If you are interested in going to Tybee Island I recommend staying at one of the Mermaid Cottages.
We stayed in Rose Folie
Layla and Kevin from The Lettered Cottage just recently re-decorated one of the homes.
Called Screened Inn

The jewel of the South
This weekend we took a trip to Savannah, Ga for my best friends wedding. If you live in the south I don't have to tell you how hot it was, but I will. It was so hot, we could hardly breath. Every time we walked outside, it was like walking into a sauna. But I must say the days were beautiful. Blue skies not a drop of rain the whole time. My husband and I were able to stay an extra day and tour Savannah. Some of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen are in Savannah. Take a look...
If you've never been to Savannah, I highly recommend it. Bring your walkin' shoes and be prepared to see lovely architecture and hear some ghost stories. The city is said to be the most haunted in the South east.
We also stayed in the cutest little cottage on Tybee Island which I will post about tomorrow.
