Kitchen Update-Glass Cabinets!

So far this has been my 2nd kitchen update.  It has taken about a month to get to this point, and we still have a long way to go.  We have decided to get dark bamboo floors installed eventually.  But I'm SO happy to announce that we hung the final glass cabinet last night around 9:30pm.  And I could not be more thrilled with the result.  I've had this vision for my kitchen since the day we moved in almost 5 years ago, and it's finally starting to look just like I pictured in my head.  The first project we completed was painting the counter tops with Giani Granite Paint. The second was the new faucet . And now I can add glass cabinets to the list!



For those who have forgotten what we started with.  Honey colored cabinets, fake butcher block counters.
and still existing linoleum flooring.
Here is a side by side comparison of the same spaces before and after.
We decided not to put pulls on the top, just because I think it looks better with out so many knobs and such.  Plus with 50 cabinets, it was starting to get pretty expen$ive.



And a couple more just for fun.
Although I love the green color, it just doesn't seem to go.  So I will be painting it.

We accidentally cut one of the wrong cabinets, whoops!  So I will be able to share the other side of the kitchen once we fix that.

Glass Cabinet Sneak Peek

The thing I'm most excited about with this whole kitchen reno, is the glass cabinets.  We are doing it ourselves and I promise to write up a complete how to when we are finished.  It's the last thing to do as far as the cabinets go, but we still have the floors to replace. That will be a while. Boooo....

Only have 6 more to hang.  I got so burned out painting my 50 cabinets, that we've been taking it easy the past couple weekends.
Really enjoying the Spring weather, although this pollen is starting to become a nuisance.

Be Inspired: Bring Spring Indoors

One of my very favorite things about Springtime is the free flowers.  Like most people, I love to have fresh flowers hanging around the house on a regular basis.  But it can be expensive.  So now I can just go outside with my scissors, and with a quick snip snip I have a beautiful bouquet.
Thankfully we didn't have much of a winter this year.  It's no secret that I hate it.  Sorry Winter, but you and I just don't get along and you know it.

Chalk Paint Buffet

Here is the one of the pieces of furniture I will be selling at The Little Red Barn sale
It could be used as a buffet, TV console or I thought it would look cute as a linen cabinet.
It has 2 glass shelves inside.
I made my own chalk paint by combining water with no sand grout.  I did not measure it but just added water until I got the right consistency I wanted.  Then I added equal amount of paint.  It turned out well, and sanded really well.

A few items...

I've been quite the busy little bee over here.  Getting ready for The Little Red Bard Sale has been so much fun.  And we are also about 75% done with the cabinets, woo hoooooo!

 Today I have a few completed items that will be at the Barn Sale.
I saw these great sweater pillows in a catalog somewhere and came up with my own version.
Larger pillows $25 smaller shirt pillows $18
A couple burlap cork boards
Large blue/green frame $45

There are also many pieces of furniture that I will share with you as I complete each one.

DIY Anonymous

There should be a support group for people who DIY home renovations.  
Specifically for those who have ever refinished their kitchen cabinets.   Furthermore, this group of people should receive a medal.  Those of you who have done this know exactly what I'm talking about.  If I never paint another cabinet for the rest of my life I will die a happy woman.
 I've never explained to you that I have 45 cabinets in my kitchen.  Yes, you read that right 45!  Go in your kitchen and count, I'm sure I have more.  Add in all of the drawers and that makes 54.  Do you see now why I need a support group?  Plus we are doing a few extra things to some of the cabinets like adding glass to 7 of them.  I'm also spray painting the hinges and buying new hardware.  
Oh yeah, and we have a 2 year old and a 6 month old.
Good times.....good times....
We will forever remember,"..that time we painted the cabinets...good lord, I hope we never have to do that again."

However I wanted to give you a sneak peek at how it's coming along.


 Still have a bit more to do, hopefully I can reveal it sometime this year....
